This rope knot mat is created from four stranded jute rope using a prolong mat knot. The outer passes of the knot mat are sewn by hand, using strong thread, which helps to keep everything 'shipshape'. No glue is used.
Sailors used to use old rope to make deck mats, but I have made this from new sustainably grown jute line. It is named after one of my favourite harbours.
Being made from natural plant fibres, it is best used as an indoor mat, or large table centerpiece. Please be aware there is no anti slip on this mat, so it shouldn't be used on a polished floor.
Jute is best kept clean by vacuuming, or just wiping with a clean damp cloth, but if needed, it can wiped with a damp sponge or cloth, and left to dry naturally. For more information about jute rope click here.

In warm weather the mat will slacken, and in the cold, it will tighten again.
